  • King George VCE Office - The King George Office is partnering with the Opp Shop in King George as a venue to give away our free vegetable seedlings to the community. We are seeking EMGs to help man the giveaway table during the Opp Shop's operating hours, sometime between April 20th and May 1st. The Opp Shop is open Tuesday: 9am-1pm Wednesday: 5-7pm Saturday: 9am-1pm. EMG(s) interested in helping could select a date that works best for them. Setup would be 8am on a Tuesday or Saturday, or 4pm on a Wednesday to help ensure volunteer parking. The EMG volunteer would need to pick up a table, tent, and the seedlings from the KG VCE office and return the supplies to the office after the Opp Shop closes or the seedlings run out (whichever comes first). Volunteer hours may be counted under "office support." If EMGs are available on various days, we will select a few as back-up dates in case we do not "sell out" of seedlings on the first date. We also likely will have additional dates later this spring as more seedlings become ready for transplant.
    • If you are interested in helping, please email [email protected] with dates that you would be available to assist and any questions you may have.

A fresh Boxwood Wreath Workshop was held in early December 2024, at the King George Citizens Center.  For a nominal fee, 20 participants created beautiful fresh boxwood wreaths.  The fresh boxwood and all other materials needed to create the wreath, plus instruction from Master Gardeners, were provided.  Members of the KG Garden Club were on hand to sell embellishments for an extra charge.  Bows, fresh Buford holly twigs loaded with bright red berries and various dried natural materials provided additional color and interest to the wreaths.
Here are a few of the beautiful wreaths and their creators:

Coordinator Laurie Clarkston has put together a fantastic and long-term project for restoring Boxwoods in the Historic Confederate Cemetery in Fredericksburg – which is still used as a burial site by several of the area churches. The Boxwood training workshop is ongoing for Master Gardeners/trainees. We meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays mostly in the afternoon.  Hoping to change this to morning sessions soon.  If you are interested, please contact Laure with any questions and to get on the email list of weekly updates.  A weekly schedule is posted and sometimes the times and days can change to due schedules.  Contact Laurie by email: [email protected], or by calling or texting @ 540-846-5357.

2020

For the first time in several years, although we will not be hosting public Boxwood workshops, MGACRA was able to collect some healthy boxwood and create wreaths.  Definitly a sign of HOPE in this difficult year!!!!
