Pollinator Kick-off Celebration - Laurie Clarkston is looking for dried flowers, petals, and leaves for the Pollinator Kick-off Celebration (June 21) to make bookmarks for kids! Springtime is great for finding wildflowers in bloom. Many acorns are now growing and they make great pressed leaves. Same goes for the trees that are starting to emerge, look for the small leaves. You can also dry grass that has seeds on them. The tips of ferns no more than 2” long are also good to dry. If you come across a flower that is too big, take the pedals apart and dry them separately. The bookmarks are 2” wide. You can use a flower press or old book, and it takes between 1-3 weeks to dry flowers and leaves. If you would like to try using the microwave, call or text Laurie for instructions! It is easy and you get to see instant results! Please let Laurie know if you’re able to press flowers for the pollinator kick off event. She will be at the general education meeting Wednesday (April 16) and is bringing containers to give out for storing pressed flowers. Email: [email protected], or call/text at 540-846-5357.
