Except where noted, all events and meetings are open to the public. Some lectures and events will be offered via YouTube or ZOOM technology. Zoom meetings/presentations will require registration prior to start date. The Free Lance Star and MGACRA Facebook page will also be used to post/advertise all activities. 4 September: Workdays at Cedell Brooks Jr Demonstration Garden on Thursdays
Volunteer Opportunity at King George Native Demonstration Garden Thursdays 9/4, 9/11, 9/18, 9/25. Project Coordinators, Alvin Calhoun and Mary Ellen Green welcome all Master Gardeners/Interns and other interested parties to take part in weekly maintenance volunteer opportunities at the Native Demonstration Garden at Cedell Brooks Park (11215 Henry Griffin Rd, King George, VA 22485)Thursdays, starting at approximately 9:30 AM and ending sometime before noon. This maintenance schedule (weather permitting) will continue weeklyevery Thursday morning throughout the growing season and will end on November 20, 2025. You can earn as much or as little MG volunteer hours as you wish. Please track and enter your hours in Better Impact under MyImpact page app under Demonstration Gardens at Cedell Brooks Park at https://app.betterimpact.com/Volunteer/Hours. We ask volunteers to bring gloves, weeding tools, buckets, and personal water. TBD September: Afternoon Walks through Cossey Park Arboretum
Time 1 p.m. This year we are planning Afternoon Walks through Cossey Park Arboretum. Open to All Ages Master Gardeners will lead tours to showcase the flowering shrubs and trees at Cossey Park Arboretum. Immediately following the walks there will be short talks in the park on different horticultural topics pertinent to spring gardening. Dress for the weather/being outdoors and wear comfortable shoes. Location: Cossey Park Arboretum, 1601 Kenmore Avenue, Fredericksburg, 22401. Adjacent to Fredericksburg Dog Park and Community Garden. Deadline to register: Wednesday before each session.
